VWH intonation problems - 2011 till ???
This also involves 30th anniversaries.
Started with a VWH one day where the same setup I'd been using for 10 years sounded like shit, the low strings would intonte using 5th and 17th comparative, but only far forward of their normal position, the firthest back, now almost even with your high E string, and the wound strings over half scale just sounded horrible, every note pulsing, harmonically at odds with itself, wolf tones. I should have realized what it was and experimented more but I'll be the first to admit, when I need electronics help I go see Mike at HUSA as he can diagnose anything. I never tested their output because my meter died years ago and, see the last sentence.
At some point the EVO's changed, enough from keeping them a few mm off the strings [setting a little lower than the limit of a full pullup that allowed the strings to hit the pickup while the action was set at 1.5mm] to where you had to lower the pickups to a few mm over the pickguard. Now with the magnetic pull reduced enough the strings will intonate in their expected position and the notes over half scale on the wound string will sound pure. It'sa as simple as lowering the pickups as far as it needed to intonate to the correct spot.
If it's direct mount and you installed them experiment until it goes away at the highest point, because that's where you foam will permanently compress to. Guard mount like the JEM's you can fiddle with all you want to the limits of the wire under the pickups.
